I Drank Celery Juice Every Day For 6 Months – Here’s What It Did

HOW I GOT STARTED

If you had told me in January of this year that by September I’d be drinking celery juice every single morning, I wouldn’t have believed you. But, 2020 has certainly been VERY surprising. Very surprising, indeed. I’ve never been a big juice or smoothie person, because honestly, drinking them didn’t always feel great. What prompted me to even consider drinking celery juice? I watched this YouTube interview with Miranda Kerr and Anthony William. This made me rent out Anthony’s book “Celery Juice: The Most Powerful Medicine of Our Time Healing Millions Worldwide” and read it cover to cover. After learning about all the potential benefits that celery juice brings, I thought why not? If it tastes horrible or I can’t stomach it, I’ll just stop. And then, the pandemic hit. Suddenly, I had more time on my hands in the morning to actually make celery juice, so I did. I have been drinking pure celery juice on an empty stomach every morning since.

BENEFITS

Since I’ve been drinking celery juice for 6 months, here are the benefits I’ve noticed:

  • increased energy and wakefulness

  • increased hydration

  • clearer skin/less breakouts

  • no more bloating & gas

  • healed digestion

  • faster healing time

  • lowered inflammation

  • increased immunity

All of this didn’t happen overnight, and I truly don’t think you’ll notice significant changes if you drink celery juice for just a week, or even 1-2 months. It takes even longer for some people, as everyone is different. Also, this likely doesn’t include all the “invisible” benefits – detoxing my liver, clearing of my intestines and so on.

HOW TO MAKE IT & DRINK IT

I highly recommend reading Anthony’s book to really get a full sense of the benefits of celery juice, but I can tell you how to make it and drink it, to get you started. If you have a juicer, you’ll just juice the washed celery like any other fruit/vegetable. Now, if you don’t have a juicer, like me, you can make your celery juice in a high speed blender, like a Vitamix. All you need to do is wash off the celery, chop it up into cubes (cut off an inch off the top and an inch off the bottom of the stalk), blend it up until it liquifies and then strain it in a cotton nut milk bag (I have this one). Believe me, once you get the hang of it, it’s not time consuming at all!

Once you have the juice ready, make sure you have it on an empty stomach (which means if you drank water before, wait 15-30 minutes), and have it ALONE – no water, lemon juice or anything else added. According to Anthony, it’s key to drink 100% celery juice. Once you drink it, wait another 15-30 minutes (the longer the better), and then have your breakfast. Note: celery juice is NOT a substitute for breakfast.

Some key tips for buying celery juice: Firstly, make sure to buy organic celery whenever possible. Secondly, to get really juicy and tasty celery juice, buy thick celery stalks, that have a lighter green color. This kind of celery will yield a mild, sweet & salty taste to your juice. If you buy the thinner, darker green celery stalks, the taste will be somewhat bitter and pungent (not my favorite, ).

Anthony recommends to work your way up to at least 16oz of celery juice/day (approximately one whole celery stalk). I definitely started low and slow. I increased the amounts gradually over time, and worked up to about 16oz. But here’s the thing – I couldn’t handle that much celery juice. So, I have a little less than 16 oz every day, and I’m hoping I’ll be ready to increase when/if my body is ready for it. As always, listen to your body.

It’s important to note that you should drink freshly made celery juice, as its benefits lessen by the hour. So, if you can, make it fresh every morning. Over the last few months, there’s only been a few times when I really needed to make the juice ahead of time (the night before), which is okay, but shouldn’t become a habit. Also, I had a few days when I wasn’t home and had to resort to buying celery juice, and I could only find it at Pressed Juicery – however, it has lemon in it as well. Not ideal, but not the end of the world.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Celery juice contains electrolytes, digestive enzymes, antioxidants, vitamin C, trace minerals and more – what’s not to like? I, personally, am super happy with the benefits that celery juice brought to my life. I am definitely going to continue drinking it daily, as I love how it makes me feel and I actually love the taste too. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments!
